How do I read papers in BB Online?

BB Online is the digital version of our journal. It is accessed via www.britishbirds.co.uk. A subscription is required to view all of the content. Subscribing to BB Online gives you access to the entire back catalogue of British Birds, including new issues as they appear. You can read papers by navigating to them from the home page, by following the 'Browse by Volume' link in the menu, or by searching for a term or word that brings up the most relevant articles. You can read more on the About page.

How do I order BB Online?

If you are not currently a subscriber, you can order BB Online through the subscription page.

County recorders, Bird Observatories, individuals under the age of 25 living in Europe, or institutions should email [email protected] for more information.

I want to upgrade to receive both print and digital version of British Birds?

Existing subscribers may upgrade their subscription to print and digital for only £2. The digital access will automatically be added to your existing subscription entitlement through till the end of your subscription. To do so, please email [email protected], including in the email your name, address and (if known) subscription number.

I want to migrate to BB Online only.

No problem, email us and we’ll cancel your paper subscription and set-up a digital subscription for you starting with the next issue through till the end of your current subscription period.

I’m late renewing, can you backdate my digital subscription?

Since a subscription to BB Online gives access to all issues of British Birds, there is no need to backdate digital subscriptions.

I've forgotten my password, what do I do?

You can reset your password by going to the Login panel and clicking 'Request new password'. A password reset will be sent to your email address. If you have problems resetting the password, you may wish to clear your browsers cache. This varies by browser and you can find specific instructions for your browser online. Please not that British Birds admin cannot reset passwords via email.

What are the benefits of a digital subscription?

BB Online is accessible anywhere, including from a mobile device. It offers the entire British Birds back catalogue, and is fully searchable. Media such as associated sounds and videos can be viewed within the articles, and images can be enlarged to view at high resolution.

Do I need to be online to read my digital issue?

No. You can save articles, issues or whole volumes to read offline. To do so, download our app for Apple here or for Android here.

What happens if I cancel my subscription?

Since BB Online offers an all-or-nothing subscription, cancelling your subscription will no longer give you access to any of the content in BB Online. However, resubscribing will give you access to all of the content again, including from issues you might have missed.

What happens if I change my device?

Since BB Online is a web-based service, you can log in on any device using a web browser by going to www.britishbirds.co.uk.
