The protected Status of the Goosander

In their recent paper (Brit. Birds 70: 229-237), E. R. Meek and B. Little referred incorrectly to the protection afforded to the Goosander Mergus merganser by the 1954-76 Protection of Birds Act. In Scotland, the Goosander is included upon Schedule 2 and may be killed or taken at any time by authorised persons. In England and Wales, it is afforded standard
