Leucistic Barn Swallow

This leucistic Barn Swallow Hirundo rustica was observed and photographed in southwest Asiatic Russia, near the Kazakhstan state border (50°57’37.6”N, 061°12’41.4”E), on 31st July 2010. The bird is leucistic rather than an albino; it has dark eyes and pale rather than white markings, and makes an interesting contrast to the pictures of an albino Swallow reported elsewhere on the BB website (see http://www.britishbirds.co.uk/species/albino-barn-swallow-in-northumberland).
