Abstract A Western Swamphen Porphyrio porphyrio was discovered on the South Girder pool at Minsmere RSPB reserve, Suffolk, on 31st July 2016. It remained until 5th August and was relocated at Alkborough Flats, Lincolnshire, on 30th August, where it remained into 2017. This individual’s arrival coincided with an unprecedented dispersal of Western Swamphens into central and northern France, north of the breeding areas in southern Europe. Western Swamphen has now been added to Category A of the British List.
