Abstract Following the recent split of ‘Northern Goshawk’ into American Goshawk Accipiter atricapillus and Eurasian Goshawk A. gentilis, this paper summarises the taxonomy, identification and movements of the newly split Nearctic species and reviews the historical British claims.
