Great bird reserves: Cley Marshes To celebrate the 90th anniversary of Norfolk Wildlife Trust (formerly the Norfolk Naturalistsâ Trust), this article explores the iconic bird reserve that was its first land purchase, in 1926. Most birdwatchers in Britain have made the pilgrimage to Cley at some point, and this article summarises the reserveâs history and some of the key figures in its development; the management of the reserve over its lifespan and the associated environmental challenges; and, most importantly, its birds. Report on scarce migrant birds in Britain in 2014: non-passerines This report presents data on the non-passerine scarce migrants recorded in Britain in 2014. Around 300 Great White Egrets represents yet another record total, and a huge advance on the previous record of 184 in 2013. It was also an excellent year for White-billed Diver, Glossy Ibis and Wryneck, all of which continue to increase. Species faring less well included Kentish Ploverâ for which it was the worst year on record â and Alpine Swift â the lowest total since 1971.
