The islands of North Uist, Benbecula and South Uist in the Outer Hebrides support internationally important numbers of breeding waders, principally Great Ringed Plover Charadrius hiaticula, Northern Lapwing Vanellus vanellus, Oystercatcher Haematopus ostralegus, Dunlin Calidris alpina, Common Redshank Tringa totanus and Common Snipe Gallinago gallinago.
