On 10th August 2023, I was watching assorted waterfowl on the Restharrow Scrape at Sandwich Bay, Kent. At 06.20 hrs, I noticed a female Mallard Anas platyrhynchos feeding by upending in emergent vegetation at the water’s edge, accompanied by what I thought were small ducklings. Closer examination showed that these ‘ducklings’ were in fact a family party of Little Grebes Tachyb
