This special issue of the journal Alauda has been produced as a stand-alone monograph on the White-backed Woodpecker Dendrocopos leucotos. Covering, amongst other things, taxonomy and geographical variation within the species, populations in Europe, ecology, breeding and conservation, the publication gives a thorough, contemporary overview of the species. The text and captions are in French throughout.
