Alert posture of Yellow-billed and Great White Egrets. Great White Egrets Egretta alba occur in winter in West Africa alongside Yellow-billed Egrets E. intermedia. While a close view of the head and facial structure will serve to separate them, the two species show a similarity of bare-part colour in non-breeding plumage and can be more difficult to identify at a distance.
