Between 2018 and 2022, I monitored 112 Blackcap Sylvia atricapilla nests for the BTO’s Nest Record Scheme (NRS). While behavioural study is not the primary objective of the NRS, finding and monitoring nests often reveals interesting aspects of behaviour. Below are some notes on Blackcap behaviours that do not seem to have been documented before (see also Hewitt 2021).
