All wader species can exhibit behaviour intended to distract potential predators from the nest or chicks. Such behaviour includes various ‘distraction-lure’ displays, shown for example by small plovers such as Ringed Charadrius hiaticula, Little Ringed C. dubius and Kentish Plovers C. alexandrinus, as well as by other, less closely related wader species.
