Abstract A Yelkouan Shearwater Puffinus yelkouan seen off Berry Head, Devon, on 29th July 2008 has been accepted by BOURC as the first for Britain.The bird was seen in direct comparison with a Balearic Shearwater P. mauretanicus, both in flight and at rest on the sea, and lingered long enough for detailed field notes and a series of photographs to be taken.
