Aerial stretch displays by Grey Heron and Little Egret

Abstract

The ‘aerial stretch display’ is a form of courtship previously described in the ‘Eastern Great Egret’ Ardea alba modesta, the Reddish Egret Egretta rufescens and the Snowy Egret E. thula. This paper describes observations of aerial stretch displays by a Grey Heron A. cinerea and Little Egrets E. garzetta in a breeding colony in Norfolk.
