Atypical moult in an adult Common Crane

Atypical moult in an adult Common Crane

Abstract

This short paper describes atypical moult in a Common Crane Grus grus, one of a pair breeding in Suffolk. The moult pattern shown by this individual may be a response to the non-migratory life history of the birds breeding in East Anglia, or a response to increased predation risk during the moulting period, when birds following the usual moult strategy are temporarily flightless.
