On 1st November 2012, I watched an adult male Northern Wheatear Oenanthe oenanthe with an all-but-missing bill (plate 221–223) catching flies and spiders in a field near Ardmore, Co. Waterford. The bird was remarkably healthy looking, despite the state of its bill, and appeared to have a high success rate in catching prey (plate 221).
