In July 2022, a pair of Common Guillemots Uria aalge adopted a Kittiwake Rissa tridactyla chick on Staple Island, Farne Islands, Northumberland. The displaced youngster – likely fallen from a nest site above – was first seen in the care of an adult Guillemot on 4th July, although it’s possible that the bond had formed earlier but the chick had remained out of view until 4th July.. The Guillemots continued to brood the Kittiwake chick until 30th July.
