Field characteristics of the Caspian Tit

Abstract

The Caspian Tit Poecile hyrcanus is a little-known species with a range that is limited to Iran and the extreme south of Azerbaijan. It is often depicted as showing a brown or brownish cap. However, observations of the species in Azerbaijan in November 2023 suggest that the cap can look black in the field. This short paper presents photographs and notes on the field appearance of two individuals, as well as brief comments on ageing.
