Short-eared Owl movements revealed

Advances in tracking technologies have made it possible to uncover the large-scale movements of nomadic Short-eared Owls Asio flammeus, whose appearance in and disappearance from regions across the species’ range has fascinated ecologists for decades. A recent paper, published in Ibis (https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/ibi.13304), has reported on the movements of 47 Short-eared Owls, tagged with GPS devices in Scotland, Iceland and Spain.
