House Sparrow stays at the top
The results for RSPB’s Big Garden Birdwatch, which took place between 26th and 28th January 2024, have been announced (www.rspb.org.uk/whats-happening/big-garden-birdwatch/results). The annual event is one of the largest citizen science wildlife surveys in Britain and helps in gaining an understanding of how garden bird populations are changing over time, both in abundance and in distribution. More than 610,000 peopktook part in the Big Garden Birdwatch in 2024, resulting in over 12.1 million observation hours since the first Garden Birdwatch in 1979. This year, 9.7 million birds were counted.
