Ospreys breed in Yorkshire…

A pair of Ospreys Pandion haliaetus has nested in Yorkshire for the first time since records began in 1800 (https://bbc.in/3BEV1fS). The pair successfully fledged two chicks at the Bolton Castle Estate, near Leyburn.

Tom Orde-Powlett, who runs the estate, said: ‘Over the last 20 years or so, I have seen Ospreys with increasing frequency and, in 2019, what we thought might be a pair was spotted. I decided to stock two ponds near where we had seen them with some trout [Salmo trutta], hoping that a good food source would keep them here and also reduce pressure on wild fish.’
