Demographic and movement data needed for seabird conservation
Quantifying the importance of the multiple, often interacting, threats to seabird populations is vital in implementing effective conservation actions both locally and globally. A new BTO study has examined the information needed to inform conservation measures for seabird species (https://bit.ly/3RR0sCb).Population models are commonly used to identify links between threats, demographic rates and population changes; however, these models require data that is often lacking for many seabird species. Creating models is complicated further by the lack of data for birds outside the breeding season, which is especially true for seabirds that undertake large-scale movements.
