Notes on a neglected colony of Twite in central England

Abstract

Although the vast majority of the Twite Linaria flavirostris breeding in Britain & Ireland occur in Scotland, small pockets of breeding Twite remain in other parts of the islands. The small population in the Derbyshire Peak District now appears separated from the birds in the Pennines, at least in the breeding season. This short paper reviews what is known about the Derbyshire population, both historically and currently.
