During a recent trip to Iceland, we were struck by the colour of the normally white underparts of some of the Red-throated Divers Gavia stellata at the Flуi reserve in southern Iceland (plates 379 & 380). Most of the birds at this site had a variable orange suffusion of the lower foreneck, breast and (to a lesser extent) belly. Birds seen in other parts of Iceland during the same trip did not have this striking orange colour.
