Abstract

A number of observations have been made of interactions between raptors and Great White Egrets Ardea alba at an egret breeding colony at Holkham, Norfolk. These include interactions between breeding Great White Egrets and Marsh Harriers Circus aeruginosus, and between non-breeding Great White Egrets and various raptor species. Many of the observations detailed here appear to have been unrecorded in the literature to date.Since Great White Egrets Ardea alba began nesting at Holkham NNR, Norfolk, in 2016, a number of observations of interactions between the egrets and various raptors that have come close to the egrets’ nests have been made. No detailed information has previously been published on such interactions between raptors and Great White Egrets.
