Report on scarce migrant birds in Britain in 2022, part 2: passerines

Abstract

It was a record year for numbers of Red-rumped Swallow Cecropis daurica and Arctic Warbler Phylloscopus borealis in Britain in 2022, while both Blyth’s Reed Warbler Acrocephalus dumetorum and Radde’s Warbler Phylloscopus schwarzi achieved their second-highest total on record. In contrast, 2022 was a poor year for Great Grey Shrike Lanius excubitor and Red-breasted Flycatcher Ficedula parva. For the second year running, Ortolan Bunting Emberiza hortulana was recorded in record-low numbers, while Richard’s Pipit Anthus richardi was recorded in the lowest numbers since 1986.
