Reverse mounting in birds, whereby the female mounts the male in mock copulation, has been reported for many species. In some, such as grebes (Nuechterlein & Storer 1989) and the European Shag Phalacrocorax aristotelis (Ortega-Ruano & Graves 1991), this behaviour is not uncommon.
