A Scottish Osprey in the Caribbean
When Michael St John first saw an Osprey Pandion haliaetus with a blue colour ring at Foster’s private wetland, Barbados, on 25th October 2022, the full significance of the sighting was not fully understood. Fortunately, on 9th March 2023, he refound the bird at Bawdens Irrigation Pond, 6 km away from Foster’s wetland. He took a series of photographs, which clearly showed the code on the ring to be KW0 (plate 219). This bird had been ringed by the Clyde Ringing Group in Clyde Muirshiel Regional Park, Inverclyde/Renfrewshire/Ayrshire, on 23rd June 2022 (plate 220). It was one of a brood of two chicks, which fledged around 29th July 2022. This is the first known occurrence of a British-ringed Osprey in the Americas.
