Two small, dark swifts with white rumps are found in the Western Palearctic: Little Swift Apus affinis, which, though recorded in Britain and Ireland on ten occasions up to the end of 1994, breeds no nearer than Northwest Africa, and White-rumped Swift A. caffer, which, though unrecorded here, nests in small numbers as close as southern Spain.
