The bird in the second photograph (Brit. Birds 79: 418, plate 223) was identified by competition entrants as follows: Brambling Fringilla montifringilla (87%) Chaffinch F. coelebs (6%) Siskin Carduelis spinus (2%) House Sparrow Passer domesticus (2%) Canary Islands Chaffinch F. teydea (1 % ).
